AMD Phenom X4 something to look forward too?
November 20, 2007
AMD just brought out its new line of quad processors, will it be enough to challenge Intel?
Almost every computer whizzkid was looking forward to the release of AMD’s new line of processors.
Until now AMD was loosing the competition with Intel in budget and energy related comparisons. The Phenom isn’t making a change in this at all, Its not capable of competing with Intel’s core 2 quad Q6600 even the higher clocked Phenom X4 9900 looses 11 of 15 benchmarks as shown by AnandTech compared to the Q6600 that’s clocked at 2.4 GHz the Q9900 of AMD is clocked at 2.6 GHz.
AnandTech says that AMD should lower the price if it wants to compete with Intel in the Quad core range, the price it stands now is around $235,- while the Q6600 of Intel is costing you $222,-. AMD says to lower prices early 2008 but if that’s enough…? well have to see then. Only people with socket AM2 motherboards who are looking to a cheap upgrade to a Quad core processor are probably the sole market for these Processors.
