Intel Processors

In quick overview: what processors are good to buy?

To start, there are single core, dual core and quad core processors, so first of all:  which choice is best for the next year?

Well, dual core is main stream at the moment, so only if you want budget systems, single core is still your thing.

This leaves the choice between dual core and quad core, even here the choice isn’t that difficult, quad core is a technology that’s not implemented yet in most software for home users, so only if you’re a professional graphical designer or you have the money to buy software that can use quad core processors you’d be interested in one.

This makes the choice simple, go for a dual core processor…. now, AMD is lacking in high end CPU’s in this segment and is only interesting if you go for a budget solution. This makes your choice even better, high end is Intel territory at the moment, Budget is what ever you prefer.

Intel core 2 duo is the one I want for the above reasons.

Now, which one? we have two versions, the E and the X version, the E is consumer market and the X is for more power from the same but the more extreme version with unlocked multipliers.
If you look at the charts at toms hardware the core 2 duo E6850 is the best scoring CPU behind or between the extreme CPU’s at the moment. Doing some maths with wallets, bank accounts and availabilities the core 2 duo E6850 from Intel comes out as my favorite CPU to buy and upgrade my system for now.

With the E8xxx series coming in the first quarter of 2008 for less with more, and new 45 nm technologies in mind the Intel based motherboard will give you more value on the long run as well.
